The 2017 FIFA U-17 World Cup in India continued today, October 9 with Group A and Group B matches taking place in New Delhi and Navi Mumbai.
The United States claimed their second win of the 2017 FIFA U-17 World Cup on Monday as Ayo Akinola scored the lone goal in their 1-0 win against Ghana in a Group A encounter at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in New Delhi.
Hosts India scored their first ever goal in a FIFA World Cup, but the goal and a spirited performance were not enough to deny Colombia a 2-1 win. Jeakson Thounaojam scored India’s historic goal, while Juan Penaloza’s brace secured the South Americans a vital win.
Meanwhile Mali impressed with a 3-0 win against Turkey in a Group B match at the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai, while Paraguay got past New Zealand 4-2 in the second game in the group after having been 1-2 behind at the break following two own goals from captain Alexis Duarte.
The tournament will continue tomorrow with two Group C matches in Goa (Costa Rica vs Guinea, Iran vs Germany) and two Group D matches in Kochi (Spain vs Niger, North Korea vs Brazil).
