2018 AFC Women’s Asian Cup qualifiers: India lose 0-8 to hosts North Korea in opener!

The Indian Women’s Senior National Team lost 8-0 to North Korea in their first match of the 2018 AFC Women’s Asian Cup qualifiers at the Kim II Sung Stadium in Pyongyang, DPR Korea today, April 3, 2017.

Hosts North Korea took the lead in the 7th minute when Ri Un Yong’s header from a corner kick crept into the back of the Indian net. Six minutes later, the hosts doubled their lead as Ri Kyong Hyang latched onto a cross from the right flank and blasted it home to make the scoreline read 2-0.

In the 20th minute, Ri Hyang Sim got on the scoresheet after she cut in from the right flank and hammered the ball home, after wriggling past the defensive duo of Manisha Panna and Ashalata Devi.

In the dying embers of the first half, Kim Phyong Hwa added another after she blazed past Dalima Chhibber and slotted the ball coolly past an onrushing Panthoi. The half-time scoreline read 4-0 in the hosts’ favour.

Three minutes into the second half and North Korea found the net again as Wi Jong Sim’s shot from inside the box went into the net unopposed after Panthoi Chanu had fluffed her lines.

In the 64th minute, Wi Jong Sim converted from the penalty spot to make it 6-0 for North Korea after Ashalata Devi’s tackle led the referee to point to the spot. Kim Phyong Hwa made it 7-0 in the 78th minute after she curled the ball home from a tight angle. Two minutes later, North Korea added another through Sung Hyam Sim as the scoreline read 8-0.

The full time scoreline read the same as the hosts registered an 8-0 win over India in the 2018 AFC Women’s Asian Cup qualifiers opener.
