2020 IFA Shield group stage draw out, to kick-off on December 6!

The 2020 edition of the IFA Shield will be played from December 6 to 20 with the group stage draw carried out in Kolkata earlier today.

The IFA Shield will return to be a senior level tournament this season, but it will miss the participation of the Kolkata Big Two as ATK Mohun Bagan and SC East Bengal will be playing the Indian Super League in Goa at the same time with no reserve available to represent them.

The 2020 IFA Shield will be contested by 12 teams, who are split into four groups of three teams each with the top two making it to the knockout quarterfinals.

Participating will be four I-League teams in Mohammedan Sporting Club, Gokulam Kerala FC, Sudeva Delhi FC, and Indian Arrows; besides eight Calcutta Football League sides Peerless SC, Aryan Club, Southern Samity, George Telegraph SC, United Sports Club, Behala SS Sports Club, Khidderpore Sporting Club, and Kalighat Milan Sangha.

The matches will be held across four stadiums – Kalyani Municipal Stadium, Howrah Maidan, Rabindra Sarobar Stadium and Saltlake Stadium; and sadly for fans they would be closed door, following strict COVID-19 regulations, but there will be no bio bubble for the participating teams though the IFA will follow the SOPs.
