Minerva Punjab FC continue their AFC Cup campaign with their second game of the Group Stage against Abahani Limited Dhaka at Bangabandhu National Stadium in Dhaka, Bangladesh.
Minerva Punjab FC are placed second in the group alongwith Chennaiyin FC with one point from one match. Minerva Punjab FC, though playing out a goalless draw, impressed in the final third in their first match against Chennaiyin FC at Ahmedabad, India. Considering Chennaiyin FC’s recent form in the Super Cup, it was really a good performance from Minerva Punjab FC to salvage a point from the match though they would have wished for full three points.
Minerva Punjab FC, in their first away trip, will also be buoyed by the fact that Abahani Limited Dhaka have managed only one win from their last six home games in the competition.
Abahani Limited Dhaka, on the other hand, sit at the top of the table with three points courtesy of a 28th minute winner away against Manang Marshyangdi Club of Nepal. Though Abahani Limited Dhaka are playing AFC Cup for the third time but are yet to go past the group stage.
Minerva Punjab FC reached Dhaka on Sunday, April 14 and had two days of practice in preparation for the match. Their head coach, Sachin Badadhe, expressed his gratitude to Abahani and BFF, “We have been received very warmly by the officials from Abahani Dhaka and Bangladesh Football Federation. I would like to take this opportunity to express my sincere thanks on behalf of my whole team and staff for such a hospitality provided to us.”
Elsewhere, Chennaiyin FC face Manang Marshyangdi Club at their home ground in Ahmedabad, India. Chennaiyin FC have one point from one match while Manang are pointless and sit at the bottom of the group.
