AFC Dream Asia Foundation partners with Generation Amazing on legacy initiatives!

The Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Dream Asia Foundation and the Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy (SC)’s Generation Amazing programme on Sunday, June 2 signed a long-term partnership in Paris, France, which will enable collaboration in legacy and education across Asia during the next four years.

The AFC will manage the partnership through the AFC Dream Asia Foundation which was launched in March 2017 and has delivered projects across the Continent in the last two years.

Generation Amazing is the human and social legacy programme initiated during Qatar’s successful bid for the 2022 FIFA World Cup in 2010, which aims to use the power of sport to positively impact lives and create sustainable social development in communities.

Shaikh Salman bin Ebrahim Al Khalifa, the AFC President, said, “The AFC puts football for social development at the heart of all our work and since the launch of the AFC Dream Asia Foundation, we are proud to have conducted 33 projects in 21 AFC Member Associations. We are looking forward to working with the Generation Amazing to deliver even more projects for the benefit of young people on our Continent.”

The value-in-kind partnership will see both sides engaging in joint football for development initiatives in countries including Lebanon and the Philippines, where the AFC has already concluded successful projects.

“We have always been committed to ensuring that the legacy of the 2022 FIFA World Cup extends beyond our borders and Generation Amazing is an important vehicle for achieving that aim,” said SC Secretary General Hassan Al Thawadi.

“Partnering with the AFC will assist us in reaching more beneficiaries and support our aim of utilising the immense power of football to enhance inclusion, strengthen community bonds, and improve lives.”

So far more than 250,000 beneficiaries have been reached through Generation Amazing across seven countries in Asia: Qatar, Nepal, Pakistan, Jordan, Lebanon, the Philippines and India while the AFC Dream Asia Foundation has been active in Nepal, the Philippines, Malaysia, Jordan, Lebanon, Mongolia, Vietnam, China, Japan, Bangladesh, Cambodia and Thailand, among others.

The partnership will contribute to the joint objective of impacting lives through football for development outreach and education by 2022, helping to empower new generations of young leaders to transform their communities through football. Generation Amazing has already reached over 28 communities through football for development programmes and the construction or refurbishment of community pitches.
