AFC Medical Officers gain valuable insights!

The FIFA Doping Control Officers Accreditation Course (Asia) started in the Malaysian capital Kuala Lumpur on Monday, December 3.

The two-day course will see from 14 medical officers from 11 Member Associations go through a series of theoretical and practical sessions, relevant to the duties and responsibilities of AFC Medical Officers in AFC tournaments.

The programme, which was recommended by FIFA with the Chairperson of the AFC Medical Committee during the FIFA Medical Committee Meeting in Zurich in March 2018, is aimed at training Medical & Doping Control Officers on strategies to fight doping and provide updates on the current trends in the doping control programme.

The Asian Football Confederation (AFC) General Secretary Dato’ Windsor John, in his opening remarks, said, “As Doping Control Officers, you will be in the front line as you carry out your duties with due diligence. It is your responsibility to ensure that all the AFC’s competitions and the conduct of its players maintain their drug-free image.”

“I acknowledge that this is a big challenge but through this Course, you will be equipped with expert knowledge to succeed. You will be briefed on the strategies on how to fight doping and learn the current trends in doping control. This Course will also be used as a platform to network and exchange information among peers.”

Also in attendance were FIFA Human Resource and Services Department Chief Dr Martin Josef Vaso, FIFA Medical and Anti-Doping Unit Head Alexis Andrea Weber and AFC Medical Committee Chairperson Dato’ Dr Gurcharan Singh, who was the speaker.
