AFC Secretary General Dato Windsor to open Soccerex China 2019!

Soccerex have announced that Dato’ Windsor John, General Secretary, Asian Football Confederation (AFC) will be part of Soccerex China 2019, May 23/24 at Mission Hills Haikou, Hainan.

Dato’ Windsor will also be lending his extensive industry expertise to the Soccerex China advisory board, helping to shape the programme as part of the AFC’s institutional support of the event.

In addition to the AFC, Soccerex China is supported the Chinese Football Association, the Chinese Super League and the Department of Culture, Radio, Television, Publication and Sports of Hainan Province. The event is hosted in partnership with Hainan Football Media and is expected to gather over 1500 senior industry figures for two days of knowledge exchange and business development in support of China’s national football development plan and the growth of their sports economy.

Having experienced an entire spectrum of football as player, coach and now administrator, Dato’ Windsor John joined the AFC as an Executive Director in 2012 before being appointed as the Deputy General Secretary shortly after in 2013. Since taking the helm as the AFC General Secretary in 2015, Dato’ Windsor has been instrumental in the implementation of the AFC’s new Vision and Mission spearheading the restructuring and transformation journey of the AFC administration to bring to life the desired outcomes envisaged under One Asia, One Goal.

As the most populous region in Asia – and perhaps biggest potential growth market for football worldwide – China is of huge significance to the AFC and they provide a programme of tailor-made support to the nation, as they do to all their Member Associations, to develop areas such as grassroots and technical expertise and organisational structures.

At Soccerex China, Dato’ Windsor will share his thoughts on the growth of the game in China and provide an update on the wider continental work of the Confederation, including the outcomes of this year’s successful AFC Asian Cup.

Commenting on the announcement, Soccerex Managing Director, Philip Gegan said, “We are proud to call on the support of the AFC, especially in such a big year following the historic 2019 AFC Asia Cup. The involvement of Dato’ Windsor is a huge addition to our programme and will give delegates in China a chance to hear what the Confederation is doing to develop football across the region.”

Speaking about his participation, Dato’ Windsor John said, “I am very happy to be supporting Soccerex China – an event which I am sure will connect football people and provide valuable insights in support of the development of football in China.”
