AFC to enhance MAs’ digital and communications capabilities!

The Asian Football Confederation’s (AFC) commitment to strengthen its support to its Member Associations in the areas of digital media and communications was further underlined at the first meeting of the AFC Media and Communications Committee for the term 2019-2023 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia on Wednesday, November 13.

Chaired by Ganbaatar Amgalanbaatar, the Committee recognised the importance for Member Associations to develop their digital media capabilities to better engage with Asia’s passionate fans and to grow the reach of the game, as outlined in the AFC’s Vision.

The Committee approved for the AFC to develop an over-arching strategy and embark on a digital audit process to help MAs understand their digital performance and share best practice as well as provide the appropriate digital support to accelerate the rising standards.
To help Member Associations develop in this crucial area, it was agreed that the AFC will commence a pilot programme with Member Associations from each of the five AFC regions.

Members were also updated of a series of regional Media and Communications workshops and individual mentorship programmes conducted over the last two years, which have created a positive impact in 44 of the 47 AFC Member Associations.

It was proposed that a new series of regional workshops, covering a wide range of topics from digital media management to communication strategy development, be conducted in partnership with selected consultants and experts, beginning in 2020.

As part of efforts to better assist Member Associations in managing their respective media landscape, the Committee also approved the proposal to expand and extend the current terms of the AFC’s media monitoring services to MAs, which will enable them to assess the coverage of their activities as well as provide better oversight on image and issues management.
