AFC Women’s Football Day celebrated at The King’s School!

The King’s School (TKS) in Goa hosted its first ever AFC Women’s Football Day which indeed was a great success with 109 women participants.

The first event to kick start the day was the U-6 girls Fun Activity – Shoot at the Goal which kick started at 11:20am on March 11, 2020 wherein 10 pre-primary girls participated in a target based penalty shootout using a pre-defined target shooting vinyl.

“Our tiny tots were extremely brilliant at this activity. The little girls were given medals especially those who scored, they bagged a Gold Medal while the others were given Silver medals. While, our second Major activity was 5-A side Futsal tournament which commenced at 11:50am,” stated Queency Rebello, Sport Coordinator at TKS.

This tournament comprised of 4 teams (knockout format) with seven in a team (5 players + 2 subs – rolling substitution) comprised of players from U-17 & U-18, parents, sports coaches, staff members and more importantly staff who are also parents in the school. A total three matches were played among 6 teams in addition to this TKS also hosted a finals.

Spanish Futsal coach Christian Roldan, part of the Football Training Development team associated with the King’s School in football coaching and education asserted that through the above tournament, we can connect several generations of women, empowered women who can practice football freely. The idea of the mini-tournament with women of several age groups showcases that different generation of women can practice football freely. Football is not always competitive, but also to provide opportunity to women of several generations of working together and enjoying the game.

Coach Debbie was the referee for the tournament and the school’s in-house football coaches Kavina and Rohita assisted with the score sheets and score board followed by the Medal distribution at 13.15h. The event to mark and promote women’s football also had a medal for the Most Valuable Player (MVP) which awarded to TKS student Lillian Fernandes.

At 13:30h, the school hosted another fun activity which was a Target Shooting Activity for the Higher Secondary School girls in an age group of U-15 to U-17. The girls had to undertake penalty shoot outs with specific targets to add to the difficulty level. 42 students participated and medals were given to students who successfully shot goals.

The last lap of the day long AFC Women’s Football Day celebration, wound up with a post-lunch Women Staff fun activity – which included Target Shooting wherein 29 of the school’s women staff (teachers, admin staff and support staff) participated.

TKS drew curtains on this fun day celebration where clearly, football was the winner and the women showcased their strength, love, enthusiasm and passion for the game.

The Director of The King’s School, Ligia Pereira addressed the gathering of women footballers and supporters followed by the medal distribution.
