Afghanistan’s Haroon Amiri joins Mohun Bagan for CFL!

Mohun Bagan - Haroon AmiriFormer Afghanistan captain Haroon Amiri has been signed by Federation Cup champions Mohun Bagan AC for the remainder of the 2016 Calcutta Football League after the clubs fiasco with Daniel Seaborne leaving before signing for the Mariners.

29 year old Kabul born Haroon Amiri, also known as Zohib Islam Amiri or Haroon Fakhruddin, is a seasoned campaigner in Indian football having initially been signed by Mumbai FC in late 2011 after having played a strong 2011 SAFF Cup in New Delhi.

He stayed with Mumbai FC until summer 2014 before signing for Dempo SC and spending the 2014 ISL on loan with FC Goa. At the end of the season Dempo were relegated and Amiri joined newcomers DSK Shivajians FC last I-League season and now joins Mohun Bagan.

Amiri underwent his physical fitness test with Mohun Bagan physical trainer Djair De Miranda Garcia of Brazil on Monday and had a full training session on Tuesday under head coach Shankarlal Chakraborty, who seemed happy with the Afghan allrounder, so Amiri will sign for the Mariners at the IFA (West Bengal) office sometime today.

On social media, Amiri said about this next move, “Happy to announce I have joined MOHUN BAGAN My first stint in Kolkata and I’m really looking forward to give my best for the club and it’s fans. Thanks to the club coach and management for showing faith in me!”

In Haroon Amiri, Mohun Bagan get a defensive allrounder, who is a fighter on the field, a strong leader with young players and someone who never gives up.

When Amiri will make his Mohun Bagan debut in the Calcutta Football League is not known at this stage.
