AIFF GS Kushal Das to meet Goan I-League clubs on July 1!

AIFF logoThe All India Football Federation general secretary Kushal Das is set to travel to Goa later this week to meet on Friday, July 1 with the Goans I-League clubs Dempo SC, Salgaocar FC and Sporting Clube de Goa.

Last Friday, June 24; the AIFF had been surprised and shocked by the I-League exit of Salgaocar FC and Sporting Clube de Goa, while the other Goan I-League side in Dempo SC was considering doing the same due to the roadmap presented to the clubs by the AIFF and their marketing partner IMG-Reliance on May 17 with the I-League defacto becoming the second tier of Indian football.

The AIFF realised late but did realise that it needed to act to somehow save the situation, if something could be saved after the exit of these old, traditional Goans football clubs and therefore now the AIFF general secretary Kushal Das will be meeting the clubs to convince them not to pull out and remain part of the Indian club football scene.

If Kushal Das will be successful and with what offer, if he has any, he goes and meets the clubs that is not known, but what is known at the moment is that both Salgaocar FC and Sporting Clube de Goa are saying that they have reached a point of no return, so it will be interesting to see if the AIFF GS Kushal Das is able to convince the clubs to return while getting Dempo SC to stay, then the AIFF wants to go with nine or even 10 teams into the new I-League season.

We can only wait and see how things unfold in Goa on Friday.
