AIFF submit India’s bid to host 2027 AFC Asian Cup!

The All India Football Federation (AIFF) has submitted its expression of interest for India to be host of the 2027 AFC Asian Cup. The Asian Football Confederation (AFC) is said to have received two bids so far with Saudi Arabia being the other country besides India having send their formal interest to be hosts of Asia’s showpiece football tournament.

Originally, bids had to be send to the AFC by March 31, 2020 but now due to the Coronavirus pandemic that deadline has been extended until June 30, 2020.

India is becoming a regular host of international competitions after successfully hosting the 2017 FIFA U-17 World Cup. India thereafter was given the rights to host the postponed 2020 FIFA Women’s U-17 World Cup and the 2022 AFC Women’s Asian Cup.

India has never hosted the AFC Asian Cup though being part of the inaugural edition in 1964, where it finished runners-up. Thereafter it participated in the 1984, 2011 and 2019 editions.
