Two time Mizoram Premier League champions Aizawl FC enjoyed a deserved first MPL win of the season with a thrilling 3-1 victory over Mizoram Police FC on Friday evening.
A brace from captain Alfred Jaryan and a late strike from Lalrinfela were enough to seal three points for the I-League club.
It took only nine minutes for Aizawl FC to take the lead when Govin Singh’s delivery was met by Alfred who directed it in Mizoram Police FC’s goal.
Known for their attacking power, Mizoram Police FC forced good saves from Aizawl FC’s custodian Gurpreet Singh while Alfred and Lalkhawpuimawia called Police goalkeeper Tanpuia into action at the other end.
But Mizoram Police’s fragile backline was exposed again in the second half when Lalkhawpuimawia broke through to set up Alfred’s second.
Mizoram Police pulled one back seven minutes later through Lalramtharmawia but ivictory was all but ensured for Aizawl FC when Lalrinfela struck their third on the 85th minute.
