Army School wins 2018 FC Bayern Youth Cup – India to win trip to Munich!

The 2018 Bayern Youth Cup – India final was won by Army Public School from Bengaluru by defeating Mumbai-based Campeon School 4-1 in New Delhi over the weekend, February 3/4.

The 2018 Bayern Youth Cup is a tournament for Under-16 boys with the India finals played as a 7-A-Side inter-school football tournament at the adidas state-of-the-art football facility – The Base in New Delhi.

The matches were conducted across five cities from end of November 2017 till January 2018, with more than 2,000 talented players showcasing their skills.

Out of the 200 schools that participated in the tournament, 12 schools from Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai, Kolkata and the NorthEast of India had secured qualification for the India finals.

French World Cup winner and FC Bayern Hall of Famer Bixente Lizarazu was present in New Delhi to attend the finals and be there also for the screening of an FCB Bundesliga match on Saturday evening.

On his maiden visit to India, Lizarazu met the 10 finalist teams to share his expertise on professional football, awarded the winning team with the trophy as well as the ticket to the FC Bayern Youth Cup World Finals to be held at the iconic Allianz Arena in Munich in May 2018 in which the Indian winners will face the champions of China, Thailand, Nigeria, Poland, USA and Germany.

Commenting on the FC Bayern Youth Cup tournament, Bixente Lizarazu said, “It was a great weekend with the kids and a pleasure to see such skilled young talents. FC Bayern and adidas through the FC Bayern Youth Cup will go a long way in nurturing grassroots football in India and inspire the youth to take part in the sport.”

“The FC Bayern tournament enables us to scout the top players from select countries and give them a platform that acknowledges their talent as well as enable them to participate in an international championship, further allowing them to garner experience, exposure and exchange of knowledge at a global level.”
