Associations & Finance Committees strengthen commitment to develop AFC MAs!

Northern Mariana Islands has been recommended for ordinary membership of the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) by the AFC Associations Committee meeting in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

The NMI Football Association submitted their application following the amendment of the AFC Statutes at the 29th AFC Congress, held in Kuala Lumpur on April 6, 2019.

A delegation from the AFC, including a committee member, conducted an assessment of the application in September 2019 and confirmed that the requirements for ordinary membership have been fulfilled by the NMI Football Association.

In line with the AFC Finance Committee, which met earlier in the day, the Associations Committee focused on the support that the AFC can give to the 47 Members and five Regional Associations.

Associations Committee chairperson, Hachem Haider, said, “We have important tasks in using our experience and guidance to lead the Member Associations – and now our Regional Associations – in the right direction so that good governance prevails in Asian football.”

Development was a key emphasis of the AFC Finance Committee which met under the chairmanship of Mariano Araneta Jr.

The Committee approved the AFC 2020 budget which included increased investment in not only MA development but also in the further improvement of the AFC’s leading competitions.

Mr. Araneta Jr, a FIFA Council Member, said, “As presented at the last Congress, the increased investment towards developing the capabilities of our Member Associations has already begun.”

“The AFC President’s Technical Staff and Infrastructure Initiatives are already making an impact with significant approvals and drawdowns.”

“The AFC’s human capital needs has been realigned to help us achieve optimum results through the new commercial deal. It is imperative that we ensure the administration is in its best possible position to deliver on the AFC’s ambitions.”

“Likewise, our match officials will create history at the U-23 Championship next January when the VAR system makes its full debut. From seven matches at the AFC Asian Cup in UAE, to all 32 matches in Thailand.”
