Bidesh XI crowned Goa Third Division League – Bardez Zone champs!

Bidesh XI emerged champions of the GFA Third Division League Bardez Zone defeating Goan Warriors FC 5-1 at Duler Stadium in Mapusa on Thursday.

Chandan Narilkar scored a brace while Vishal Salgaocar, Gaurish Bugde and Chandan Govenkar netted a goal each with all the goals coming in the second half of the play. Earlier, Creig Menezes gave Goan Warriors a first half lead.
“I’m very proud of my boys and entire credit goes to them for their tremendous efforts throughout the league and knockouts. We had a nervy first half and were even a goal down, but the boys put up a great show in the second half to overturn the game, with a huge margin, in our favour,” said Bidesh XI coach Severino Fernandes.

“I would like to thank our club president Rajesh Salgaocar for his unending support and his belief in me,” Severino.

It was Bidesh XI who started the match much composed playing the ball across the pitch but they were left gasping every time they lost possession as Goan Warriors relied to attack only on counters and even were successful in scoring the first when Creig Menezes received the ball on the left flank and ran down the pitch before slotting home to give his side an unexpected one-goal lead. Bidesh XI Chandan Govekar was quick with the ball but he was well marked by the rival defence. Bidesh XI had their chances but their efforts were either off the mark or straight at the keeper. Earlier Creig had a chance to score when a back pass from Goan Warriors player fell into his path but his effort was brilliantly saved by the rival keeper.

Crossing over, Coach Severino’s pep talk changed the Bidesh XI game as they looked more sharp and meant business on the pitch. The final 45 minutes witnessed goals, tackles, cautions as well as expulsions.

Vishal Salgaonkar, who came in as the second half substitute in place of Dyaneshwar, equalised for Bidesh XI in the 54th minute. Chandan Narulkar gave Bidesh XI the lead in the 58th minute. Once up by a goal, there were all tackles spraying in as the match took an ugly turn. Creig Menezes went into referee’s books for reckless tackle while Stephen Martin was sent off for double bookings for rough play as Goan Warriors were reduced to 10 men in the 87th minute.

Making the best use of the numerical advantage, Bidesh XI scored three more goals through Chandan Narulkar, who completed his brace while Gaurish Bugde and Chandan Govenkar also scripted their names on the score sheet.
