Brazil’s Dani Alves joins Paris Saint-Germain from Juventus FC!

French Ligue 1 side Paris Saint-Germain pulled off a coup by signing Brazilian right back Dani Alves from Italian Serie A champions Juventus FC on a two year contract.

Until recently it looked as if Dani Alves would rejoin his former FC Barcelona coach Pep Guardiola at Manchester City, but in the end he decided not to sign for Manchester but for Pari.

A free agent since leaving Juventus, the native of Juazeiro in the state of Bahia is now the 30th Brazilian to sign for the Rouge et Bleu since the club’s creation in 1970. Dani Alves, 34, is a significant and very popular figure in the world of football. He recently earned his 100th cap for Brazil, having represented the prestigious side since his international debut in 2006, winning a U20 world title in 2003, two Confederations Cups (2009, 2013) and one Copa America (2007) along the way.

Beyond these national-team honours, Daniel Alves boasts one of the best-stocked trophy cabinets among currently active players, with three UEFA Champions League trophies, 3 FIFA Club World Cups and two UEFA Europa League titles. Along with these trophies comes a raft of personal distinctions, such as his six appearances in the FIFPro World XI, which each year designates the 11 best players on the planet. It is with a lot of experience – 654 club matches in official competition with 42 goals and 138 assists – that Daniel Alves joins Paris Saint-Germain, looking to pursue a career whose watchwords have always been victory, ambition and passion for football.

“I’m extremely happy to sign for Paris Saint-Germain,” Dani Alves said after signing his contract. “In recent years, I have been able to gauge the incredible growth of this club, which has become a European football powerhouse. It’s very exciting to now be part of this great project! In all the clubs where I have played, I have always given my best to help my teams achieve as much as possible. Believe me, I am coming to Paris to win. I know the ambitions of my new club and the expectations of its many fans around the world. We’re going to share in some great times, I’m certain of that.”

“I’m delighted and very proud to welcome Daniel Alves to our club, explained Nasser Al-Khelaïfi, Paris Saint-Germain CEO and Chairman. “Daniel has not only been one of the world’s best defenders in the last dozen years, he is also a recognised and well-liked figure among football supporters on every continent. His rigour and energy will add a lot to our squad, and our fans will love his hunger for victory, which will never stop driving Dani on. By choosing Paris Saint-Germain, Daniel has shown everyone the vitality and attractiveness of our project.”
