CAF organizes workshop for Legal Affairs Managers!

The CAF Legal Affairs and Compliance Division on Thursday, August 13 held a virtual workshop for Legal Affairs Managers of the affiliated Member Associations (MA) to discuss legal issues related to the development of the game.

The one-day workshop held via video-conference also sought to open up the operations of the CAF Legal Affairs and Compliance Division created in 2018, to their counterparts from the MA’s and to forge a common ground towards a better understanding of the legal aspect of football on the continent and beyond.

CAF Director of Legal and Compliance, Achta Mahamat Saleh, explained their scope of work to the participants, whilst highlighting the importance of the infant division towards the realization of targets set by the institution.

“This is the first time we are having a meeting of this kind with our counterparts from the MA’s since the division was created two years ago. We have done a lot of work towards streamlining the activities of the organisation in line with the rules and regulations of the game.

“It is therefore imperative to share our experiences with the MA’s for them to understand our operations and the relevance of having a Legal Department in any sports establishment. It was also an opportunity to get to know the Legal Officers in the various MA’s and to create a network to exchange ideas towards a common cause of promotion and development of football on the continent,” she said.

There were also presentations on the various Standing Committees in charge of legal matters as well as the newly created Independent Bodies which includes the Governance Committee and the Audit & Compliance Committee.

Marc Cavaliero, an external Legal Counsel, also took the participants through the operations of the Court of Arbitration for Sports, detailing the role of the global body in the resolving legal issues related to the game.

Over 40 participants representing the various MA’s took part in the historic workshop.
