East Bengal Club scored a 2-1 win over Army XI in their third Calcutta Football League’s Premier Division ‘A’ match at the floodlit Barasat Municipal Stadium this afternoon.
Defending champions East Bengal moved to nine points from three matches, while last seasons runners-up Army XI stay on three points from the same number of matches.
East Bengal had more of the match in the first half but Somide Adelaja and Jiten Murmu were wasteful infront of goal. Things changed after the break as Mohammed Rafique gave the red and gold the lead in the 48th minute off an Abinash Ruidas cross. Young striker Jiten Murmu doubled the lead in the 59th minute again of Abinash Ruidas.
Army XI reduced the deficit 11 minutes from time, when Alwin E scored, but East Bengal won the game 2-1 in the end.
