East Bengal Club scored a 2-1 win over Bhowanipore FC in their opening Calcutta Football League’s Premier Division ‘A’ match at the Kalyani Municipality Stadium this afternoon.
It wasn’t an easy encounter for East Bengal in their quest for a record seventh Calcutta Football League title as the Debjit Ghosh coached Bhowanipore FC made Trevor Morgan’s men as difficult as possible.
After missing some chances, East Bengal went ahead in the 21st minute when young Jiten Murmu scored off a cross from Do Dong Hyun which took a deflection of Mohammed Rafique’s head. But the lead lasted only until the 32nd minute as the former red and gold striker Orok Orok Essien equalised for Bhowanipore FC with a placed shot. The teams went into the break with the scoreline reading one-all.
But East Bengal’s captain today, Lalrindika Ralte, scored the winner in the 54th minute with a trademark left footer following a cross from the left by Abinash Ruidas which Do Dong Hyun couldn’t head goalwards.
