Catch me on Wednesday, February 10 on the #BlankCanvas #AfterParty!

The world is changing and it’s changing for good!

But what a year 2020 we have all had. One will have to start and end with the Coronavirus pandemic which hit our planet hard and changed our lives forever, but social issues like racism, gender equality, education, poverty or other topics like climate change and sustainability where highlighted like never before.

If one goes on to speak about sports, then all these issues were known but often sports kept silent or stayed away from controversial issues to keep its image and brand in tact.

The pandemic forced sports to take an unexpected break, some short, others much much longer. The bio bubble, regular testing, empty stadiums and digital connect with the fans became core to sports.

The tight international and domestic calendars were suddenly disturbed and solutions were needed to run leagues and finish season. But besides the after-effects of the pandemic, tragic deaths in the United States and other parts of the world forced sports to take a stand with federations, leagues, clubs and franchises suddenly coming forward to support different campaigns and causes.

In 2020, sports became socially conscious, a giant leap then earlier big business was more important then taking a stand. And most sponsors and fans did take things on board, then these entities and athletes have a direct link to their fans via social media. These messages cannot be stopped at borders, so they went around the world.

#BlankCanvas is an @SAP Original Series that explores how companies in the fashion, food, and pro sports industries are changing their behaviours to attract ‘The Passionates’, consumers who put beliefs at the forefront of buying decisions.

Why is this happening? Because we are ‘The Passionates’ and have become more conscious in the way we live and think, then we all need to realise that we only have this one planet and all our collective decisions impact our world.

Watch the ‘Blank Canvas: Socially Conscious Sport’ video below!

Join us – host Abadesi Osunsade, Joy Taylor and myself – on Wednesday, February 10 at 9am PST, 6pm CET, 10.30pm IST for the Blank Canvas after party to continue the discussion about socially conscious sports.

I am looking forward to it to talk and discuss these issues. Let’s be the change!
