Champions Chennaiyin FC score first ISL-5 win, a 4-2 at FC Pune City!

Defending Indian Super League champions Chennaiyin FC scored their first ISL-5 victory with a 4-2 comeback win at FC Pune City’s Shree Shiv Chhatrapati Sports Complex Stadium on Tuesday evening.

FC Pune City had the right start as youngster Ashique Kuruniyan gave them a 9th minute lead and they took that lead into the break.

Things changed in the second session. Defender Mailson Alves headed in the equaliser in the 54th minute and only two minutes later he set-up Gregory Nelson for Chennaiyin FC’s second to give them the lead.

And the champions took the match away from their opponents with another double strike as Inigo Calderon scored his team’s third goal in the 69th minute and only three minutes later substitute Thoi Singh added a fourth as Chennaiyin FC were suddenly leading 4-1.

FC Pune City were only able to reduce the deficit through a Jonathan Vila goal in the 90th minute to make it 2-4.

And the night ended on a bad note for the hosts as their Brazilian playmaker Marcelinho was sent off in added time for a dangerous tackle on Germanpreet Singh.

FC Pune City next travel to Kolkata to face ATK on November 10, while Chennaiyin FC have a longer break before they face Jamshedpur FC on November 25.
