Chandigarh win Sub-Junior Girls National Football Championships!

A day after securing the Sub-Juniors Girls National Football Championships title Chandigarh Head Coach, Manish Kumar dubbed it as “the new beginning of women’s football in India.”

“The rise of Chandigarh as a force will infuse fresh talent into Women’s Football in India,” he stated.

“This is the new beginning of women’s football in India. The girls are highly talented are a determined lot. I think they can go on to achieve bigger things in the future,” Manish maintained.

The Sub-Junior Girls National Football Championships concluded on Monday (November 06, 2017) with Chandigarh emerging champions registering a 3-1 win over powerhouse Manipur.

Speaking to www.the-aiff.com, the Head Coach expressed his joy at overcoming all odds. “The girls, their parents and the whole Association is elated at the result. We are all overjoyed and cannot exactly express our happiness in words,” he stated. “We had left Chandigarh with the sole intention of lifting the trophy and we have achieved it. This is a huge moment for us.”

The team did faces challenges en route to the title as they face defending champions Odisha in the semi-finals and heavyweights of women football, Manipur in the final.

“It is a result of our hard work. I hail the spirit of our girls,” Manish quipped. “The girls displayed sheer determination to brush aside both teams as they pumped in three goals against both teams.”

Now with the Sub-Junior title under their belt, the coach hopes to perform on an equal footing at the Junior and National levels henceforth. There has also been a lot of support too from their families and the Chandigarh Football Association.

“The parents call me up regularly, inquiring about the progress of the girls. With such encouragement from both at home and the Association, I think the team can perform well at higher age groups,” he signed off.
