Chennaiyin FC ‘B’ beat Viva Chennai to go through to the quarterfinals!

Chennaiyin FC’s ‘B’ team beat Viva Chennai in the Don Bosco – Fr. McFerran Trophy All India Football Tournament 2018 at Don Bosco Matriculation School, Red Hills here today. Fulganco Cardozo and Prosenjit Chakraborty netting the all-important goals for the Chennaiyin FC ‘B’ in a 2-1 victory.

Fresh from a 1-0 triumph in their debut outing against Integral Coach Factory last time out, Chennaiyin FC began the match brightly and opened the scoring within the first five minutes as skipper Cardozo with a free-kick from just outside the box took a slight deflection off an opposition player before finding the back of the net. Chennaiyin FC continued to see more of the ball after the goal but Viva Chennai made it 1-1 with practically the last kick of the first half. Shihad equalizing in the fourth minute of first-half stoppage time with a superb bicycle kick after Chennaiyin FC ‘B’ had failed to clear the ball from a Viva Chennai throw-in.

Chennaiyin FC ‘B’ began the second-half strongly, much like they did in the first. And Prosenjit helped them regain the lead in the 68th minute courtesy a brilliant solo effort, that saw him beat a couple of opponents before cutting in and scoring from 25 yards.

Chennaiyin FC ‘B’ had a handful of good chances in the closing stages to add to their tally but it ended 2-1 in their favour.

The win sees Chennaiyin FC ‘B’ progress to the quarterfinals of the competition, where they face Bengaluru DFA on Tuesday, January 23 at 3:30pm.
