Defending Indian Super League champions Chennaiyin FC will have to do without their head coach Marco Materazzi in tonight’s match against Mumbai City FC at the Marina Arena (Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium) in Chennai.
The Italian 2006 FIFA World Cup winner was suspended by the Indian Super League for his involvement in a post-match altercation between Chennaiyin FC’s Italian Manuele Blasi and Kerala Blasters’ Kervens Belfort of Haiti.
According to Materazzi he only got involved to calm down matters, but the league saw the issue differently and decided to suspend the Italian for a match.
“Materazzi was found guilty of misconduct against opponents or persons other than match officials’ under AIFF Disciplinary Committee Article 49 C for his unsporting behaviour towards a team official of the opponent team after the Hero ISL 2016 Match 26 (29th October 2016 vs Kerala Blasters FC) at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, Chennai,” read an ISL statement.
