Chennaiyin FC join inter-school sports fest Skoolympics 2019!

Two-time Indian Super League champions Chennaiyin FC have announced their association with inter-school sports fest ‘Skoolympics 2019’ as their Official Football Partner. This will be its first edition with more than 8,000 students from more than 100 schools competing across 10 sports and is scheduled from October 9-13, 2019 at the Nehru Indoor Stadium in Chennai. This one-of-a-kind city-wide initiative has been kickstarted by ‘tournament OS’, an award-winning NASSCOM incubated digitization and fan engagement platform aiming to provide users with a great sporting experience.

Students from schools around the city will compete in ten sporting disciplines – Badminton, Table Tennis, Tennis, Football, Basketball, Hockey, Kabaddi, Swimming, Athletics and Volleyball. On the fifth and final day of the sporting extravaganza, a 5 km / 10 km charity marathon is also scheduled, the proceeds from which will go towards the identification, training and development of sportswomen across tier-II and tier-III towns and villages. Select Chennaiyin FC players will be present for the finals as well as the marathon, supporting the initiative of promoting sports across schools and school children.

“We at Chennaiyin FC identified a fantastic initiative to promote various sporting disciplines here in our city through ‘Skoolympics 2019’. Through our youth teams and extensive soccer schools programme, we have a thriving grassroots model in place at CFC and our endeavour has always been to promote football and the spirit of competition among school children. Skoolympics aims to achieve exactly that across various other sports through a rather unique setup and tournament, hence it truly is the perfect initiative for us to partner with. We congratulate them on their inaugural edition and wish them the best for the future,” said Ganeshaya Sodha, Head of Sponsorships & Marketing at Chennaiyin FC.

“‘Skoolympics 2019’ was ideated keeping in mind the lack of centrally organized sports fests in the city. We plan to make ‘Skoolympics 2019′ an annual property, to primarily identify young sporting talent and to give them a platform to train and perform to their best abilities. The entire event will be run, managed on the ‘tournament OS’ platform. This will help us create a database of young sportsmen in our state who will hopefully be able to participate across national and international tournaments in the future. And with partners of the stature of Chennaiyin FC coming on board and recognizing our efforts, it gives us a lot of impetus to succeed in our objectives,” said Aditya Elango, founder of ‘tournament OS’.

‘Skoolympics 2019′ will be entirely run on the ‘tournament OS’ platform, which is an exclusive operating system for sports tournaments. The platform helps in creating tournaments in minutes and can create draws and schedules in seconds as per international standards which are bias-free. Badminton, Squash, Tennis, Table Tennis, Athletics and all team sports can be organized using the platform. The database can give access to a large pool of players and certified referees who have registered.
