Chennaiyin FC score a big 4-1 win over Jamshedpur FC!

Chennaiyin FC scored a big 4-1 win over Jamshedpur FC to keep their ISL-6 semifinal hopes alife at the Marina Arena on Thursday evening.

Jamshedpur FC had broken their six match winless streak against Kerala Blasters at the Furnace and were looking to build momentum to qualify for the top four. Their away form had not been great so far in the season and they were looking to break the jinx. Chennaiyin FC entered the match with two back to back wins and were looking to make it three in a row. Both the teams had to win this game to improve their chances of qualifying for the top four.

Chennaiyin FC were the team who started off well. They didn’t create a lot of chances but were in total control of the game. They created a narrow opportunity when Edwin Vanspaul on the right flank chipped it into the box to Rafael Crivellaro who took a right-footed volley at the near post but the ball went just over the crossbar in the 4th minute. The pressure finally paid off as Chennaiyin FC took the lead. Andre Schembri put in a wonderful through ball, sending Valskis through on goal. Subrata Paul charged off his line trying to close the angle but Nerijus Valskis rolled into the side netting on the bottom-left corner. Chennaiyin FC led 1-0 at the 13th minute. The home team had a huge chance to double their lead when Andre Schembri had an open goal in front of him when Subrata came in off the line and missed it, but Schembri put it wide off the goal.

Jamshedpur FC slowly grew into the game showing control in the midfield. They had a golden opportunity when Sergio took a shot but Jerry Lalrinzuala, even though being on the ground stretched his leg and got a crucial block in. Just when the game looked to be in balance, Chennaiyin FC doubled their lead. Andre Schembri redeemed himself and scored from a header beating Subrata Paul in the centre of goal. The score at half time was 2-0.

The second half began with Jamshedpur FC showing more domination in possession. There was more intent from the players to create chance to clever play in the midfield. C.K. Vineeth was brought on for David Grande. Jamshedpur FC came close to scoring from a free-kick on the right flank. Aitor played the ball on the first touch into the box and Farukh Choudhary ran for it but the pass just evaded him as Vishal Kaith rushed off his line and collected the ball. Chennaiyin FC on the other hand had another opportunity to triple the lead. Rafael made a run towards the right side of the box and layed it on a plate for Nerijus Valskis who hit the ball over the bar. Jamshedpur FC came back into the game when Joyner Lourenco crossed the ball into the box and Sergio Castel rushed towards the near post and headed it into the back of the net at the 71st minute.

Chennaiyin FC responded instantly when Thapa spotted Nerijus Valskis making a run in behind the last defender. Thapa played a wonderful swerve pass right at the feet of Nerijus Valskis who controlled the ball and this time properly chipped the ball over Subrata Paul. Jamshedpur FC made a substitution in a desperate attempt to salvage the situation when Isaac, the goalscorer from their previous encounter against Chennaiyin FC, came in for Amarjit. Chennaiyin FC put the game to rest scoring the decisive fourth goal of the contest. Firtulescu got inside the box on the right side and tried to curl it into the far corner with his left foot but Subrata Paul made a good save, however, the ball fell at the feet of Lallianzuala Chhangte who smashed the ball into the back of the net at the near post. The game ended with the scoreline reading Chennaiyin FC 4-1 Jamshedpur FC.
