Delhi Dynamos & Chennaiyin FC both aim for first win of ISL-5!

Delhi Dynamos will take on defending Champions Chennaiyin FC in their third home match of the Indian Super League – Season 5 on Tuesday, October 23 at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, New Delhi.

The hosts come into this game on the back of a gritty and a hard fought 1-1 draw against an in-form Kerala Blasters in Kochi. Striker Andrija Kaluderovic was on target for the first time this season as the Delhi Dynamos came from a goal down to find the equaliser in the dying moments of the game.

Chennaiyin FC though have had a hard start to the season, following three defeats in a row so far. John Gregory’s side let go of a 3-1 advantage in their last game against North East United as they slumped to a 3-4 defeat at the Marina Arena.

But despite a slow start to the season for the visitors, Delhi Dynamos boss Jose Gombau is vary of the threat this Chennai side possess.

“They are the defending champions and we can’t afford to take them lightly. They have a strong squad a very good coach. It will be a really tight game tomorrow and I’m hoping we can land our first win of the season.”

Midfielder Marcos Tebar has missed the last two matches due to injury and deputing for him is defender Gianni Zuiverloon who played as a defensive midfielder in the last game, a role he is used to.

“I’ve played in that role so it was nothing new for me. I like to play in the midfield because I like to have more of the ball and I’m able to dictate the play better. Even as a defender I keep asking for the ball and look for passes.”

In his two starts so far, Gianni has twice come close to scoring but the defender is not thinking much about that and is confident that the goal will come at the right time.

“I had a great chance to score against Kerala and also against Pune. It didn’t go in but I’m hoping that it will go into the goal really soon. I like to get into these spaces and try my luck at goal scoring as well,” Gianni added.

Delhi Dynamos come into this game with no new fresh injury concerns as Tebar remains the only player doubtful ahead of this clash.

“I’m hoping Tebar will be ready in time for this match. He is a very important player but if he can’t play then I have players to fill in that role. My players can play in multiple positions,” Gombau said.
