Delhi Dynamos eye revenge against Mumbai City FC!

Delhi Dynamos will look to end their winless run in the Indian Super League – Season 5 as they ghost Mumbai City FC at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in New Delhi on Monday evening.

Mumbai City FC come into this game on the back of a four-match unbeaten run, that has seen them win three while Delhi Dynamos despite their strong showing have struggled to grind out results.

Josep Gombau’s side played arguably their best football of the season against the table toppers FC Goa and Bengaluru FC in their last two games but late goals from both sides saw Delhi Dynamos end on the losing side.

Against Bengaluru FC, it was a tale of missed chances as the side let go off multiple goal-scoring opportunities especially in the first half, which in the ended came back to bite them as a late Udanta Singh goal earned the hosts all three points. But despite the defeat, Gombau was pleased with his side’s performance.

“We are working hard to improve our finishing. It is an aspect where we have struggled. Against Goa and Bengaluru, we should have killed the game but in the end, they earned all three points.”

“We are a team that is playing good football and we don’t deserve to be in this situation. We are creating a lot of goal-scoring chances and you can have a look at the numbers to believe that,” Gombau added.

Mumbai City FC coach Jorge Costa also praised Delhi Dynamos’ style of football and said that the side have been unlucky this season.

“Dynamos have been doing the hard part but are struggling in front of goal. It is only a matter of time when they start scoring and start to get the results. The table doesn’t tell the whole story. They are a really strong side and it will be a tough game.”

Delhi Dynamos have four points from nine games so far, but the playoff spot is not out of reach just yet. Mumbai City FC meanwhile are one point behind Jamshedpur FC and ATK in sixth spot in the league table.

The last time these two sides met Mumbai City FC registered a 2-0 win at the Mumbai Football Arena, while the last time these two sides faced each other at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium it was Delhi Dynamos who came away the plaudits with a comfortable 5-1 win.
