East Bengal U-15 coach Sujit Chakraborty no more!

Former footballer Sujit Chakraborty, coach of the Under-15 boys of Kolkata giants East Bengal Club, died on Sunday evening after suffering from a lung infection at a city hospital.

Sujit Chakraborty had been a player on the Kolkata Maidan representing East Bengal in 1982 and also playing for Bengal and Bihar in the Santosh Trophy.

He later on went to coach, holding an AFC ‘A’ Coaching License degree, he headed the IFA-CSF Football Academy from 2004 to 2008, he then coached the Bengal U-16 and U-19 boys teams, while in recent years he was attached to the youth development program of East Bengal Club.

Further Sujit Chakraborty coached at senior tea, coaching EverReady Association (now United SC) twice in 1997/98 and 2002, ONGC from 2008 to 2011, Mohun Bagan for a few months in 2010/11 and then part of the coaching staff at Pailan Arrows (2012, 2013 and then assistant coach at East Bengal (2014, 2015).

East Bengal in a press release said, “With profound grief, Quess East Bengal FC announces the sudden demise of our Head of Youth Development & Head Coach of U 15 team Sujit Ranjan Chakraborty. He was suffering from a lung infection which led to his sad and untimely demise in a city hospital today evening. He was an illustrious footballer in his playing days and played for East Bengal in 1982.”
