FAM General Secretary Stuart Ramalingam underlined the role of grassroots football in the country and stressed the importance of development.

“These competitions will drive development and with more competitions, we believe it will produce more coaches and officials for our Malaysian football. It all starts at the Grassroots level.”

The competition format and guidelines will emphasise on three age categories, U-8, U-10, and U-12, and will focus on development that will help academies, communities, recreational football clubs, schools as well as grassroots league organisers.

Among the benefits of having new formats are an increase in growth participation and retention in order to produce future players and improvement in the quality of football in Malaysia.

The adaptation will also serve as awareness and education for coaches, parents, players, and officials.
