FC Goa held to 1-1 draw by Chennaiyin FC in ISL-4 semifinal first-leg!

In a rematch of the 2015 Indian Super League final, FC Goa were held to a 1-1 draw by former champions Chennaiyin FC at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Margao on Saturday night.

The game got off to a quick start and the guests from Chennaiyin FC had the better chances through Jeje Lalpekhlua and Jerry Lalrinzuala before the ISL top scorer Ferran Corominas had his attempt blocked. There were more chances at both ends before the first half ended in a goalless draw.

After the restart, FC Goa goalkeeper Laxmikant Kattimani denied Jeje and Nelson to put the guests within a minute and then in the 64th minute Coro’s shot was saved by Karanjit Singh but Manuel Lanzarote was there to score off the rebound.

But the lead only lasted seven minutes as Nelson found substitute Anirudh Thapa and the youngster made no mistake to equalise.

Towards the end it looked like home side FC Goa wanted to score a second to take a lead to Chennai but the match ended in a 1-1 stalemate and it leaves the tie evenly poised going into the second-leg.
