FC Goa officially announce the departure of head coach Sergio Lobera!

In a somewhat surprise move, top of the ISL-6 table side FC Goa have announced the termination of the contract of their Spanish head coach Sergio Lobera along with his assistants Jesus Tato and Manuel Sayabera.

In official language it was termed as both sides have mutually parted ways after differences between the club management and their Spanish coaching staff. And the timing of the departure couldn’t be worse with the business end of the season still to play.

FC Goa thanked Sergio and his coaching team for their service over the last two and a half seasons and wish them well for the future. FC Goa won the 2019 Super Cup under Lobera’s guidance and finished runners-up in the 2018/19 Indian Super League.

FC Goa president Akshay Tandon said, “I wish to thank Sergio and his team on behalf of everyone involved at the club for the work they’ve put in over the past few seasons. Our objectives when Sergio came in were to instil a style of football and build a platform on which we would move forward as a club and we managed to achieve that consistently.”

Sergio Lobera joined FC Goa ahead of the 2017/18 season to replace Brazilian legend Zico and has been a huge success with the Gaurs also developing the attacking playing style of the team further.

FC Goa’s developmental side head coach Derrick Pereira takes over in the interim, which could last until the end of the ongoing season before FC Goa announce a new head coach.
