FC Goa finally earned their first point in the third edition of the Indian Super League after a difficult encounter against Atletico de Kolkata at the Rabindra Sarobar Stadium in Kolkata.
FC Goa started brightly in search of the opening goal and Spanish veteran Jofre was at the heart of almost every FC Goa attack. After conceding a goal within the first ten minutes, the team didn’t give up and pushed forward for an equaliser. The former FC Barcelona man created a headache for the Kolkata defence with his positioning and passing.
He combined well with Robin Singh and Rafael Coelho to move the ball forward and almost got onto the score sheet in the first half. His perseverance was a key to the Gaurs finding the equaliser. It was Jofre’s corner that led to the ATK captain handling in the box and the Spaniard stepped up and smashed his spot kick to the left of the keeper Debjit Majumdar to give the FC Goa fans something to cheer about.
He will be looking to improve on his performances so far as the team now travels to Mumbai to face the high-flying Mumbai City FC in what promises to be an exciting encounter.
