Former India international Sukalyan Ghosh Dastidar no more…

Former India international striker and 1970 Asian Games bronze medal winner Sukalyan Ghosh Dastidar passed away earlier today in Kolkata.

Dastidar made his debut for India on December 10, 1970 when he came in place of Shyam Thapa at the Asian Games in Bangkok. He represented India in five matches and scored two goals.

He also stayed a member of India’s 1972 Olympics qualifying campaign in Rangoon.

AIFF president Praful Patel in his message said: “It is sad to hear that Mr. Sukaalyan Ghosh Dastidar is no more. His contribution to Indian Football will never be forgotten. I share the grief.”

AIFF general secretary Kushal Das said, “Mr. Sukalyan Ghosh Dastidar will be alive in his achievements. He has been the inspiration of so many Footballers. May He Rest in Peace.”

At the domestic level, he represented West Bengal and was part of the triumphant Bengal squad thrice in 1969, 1971 and 1972. He also scored two goals in the final against Tamil Nadu in 1972.

In addition, he played for both Mohun Bagan and East Bengal and was part of their several trophy winning squads.
