Former ISL champions ATK announce the signing of England’s John Johnson!

Two-time former Indian Super League champions ATK from Kolkata have announced the prize signing of English centre-back John Johnson from Bengaluru FC.

29 year old Middlesbrough-born John James Johnson started his career with his home town club Middlesbrough FC, where he played for their youth sides and also made his professional debut with them, but he spend time on loan at Tranmere Rovers and Northampton Town before joining Northampton Town in 2010 for three full seasons.

And then John Johnson left English shores in 2013 to join newly formed club Bengaluru FC in India. After five successful seasons with the Blues, he now stays in India but moves to ATK, who are in a rebuilding phase after a disasterous ISL-4 campaign in which they finished ninth, their worst-ever finish after two titles and a semifinal.

ATK have been active in the transfer market by already signing Pranoy Haldar and Manuel Lanzarote (FC Goa), Arnab Mondal and Cavin Lobo (East Bengal), Kalu Uche (Delhi Dynamos), Balwant Singh (Mumbai City FC), Shaikh Faiaz (Mohun Bagan).

Principal ATK owner Sanjiv Goenka said in a statement, “We have tried to form an all-round and compact squad. I am happy to welcome several new members to the ATK family and hope that together we can put up some great football this season.”
