FSDL invites bids for new ISL team, opens door for East Bengal!

The Indian Super League (ISL) organisers, Football Sports Development Limited (FSDL) have invited bids for a new team to participate in the upcoming edition of the ISL-7.

Last season 10 teams played in ISL-6 and the new 2020/21 season, which is set to kickoff on November 21 in Goa behind closed doors, would see the expansion by one club to 11 teams.

Today a notice has been issued just two days after Kolkata giants East Bengal Club announced a new tie-up with Shree Cement, which would enable them to make the switch from the I-League to the ISL.

FSDL has invited bids from six cities – Delhi, Ludhiana, Ahmedabad, Kolkata, Siliguri and Bhopal.

The official bid document states, “FSDL invites bids from interested parties for the award of one (01) additional team to enroll and participate in the Hero Indian Super League, from its seventh edition to be staged in 20202021 Bids are invited in respect of 06 cities – Delhi, Ludhiana, Ahmedabad, Kolkata, Siliguri and Bhopal. Under and subject to the Invitation to Bid (ITB). one (01) new winning bidder and accordingly one new team shall be enrolled and awarded the right to participate in the Hero Indian Super League from the seventh edition onwards.”

The forms for the bidding process will be made available to interested clubs on Monday/Tuesday, September 7/8 and the clubs will have to submit to FSDL the filled documents on September 14.
