Germany & Bayern Munich keeper Manuel Neuer out injured for the rest of 2017!

Germany international and FC Bayern Munich goalkeeper Manuel Neuer is set to miss the rest of 2017 due to a reoccurring injury.

31 year old Manuel Neuer sustained a repeat hairline fracture of the metatarsal in his left foot in training on Monday, September 18. Following a final diagnosis on Monday lunchtime, the FC Bayern captain underwent surgery early on Tuesday morning to repair the damage. The operation was performed by Prof. Dr. Ulrich Stöckle in Tübingen, which involved setting the fracture with a plate.

FC Bayern chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge said, “Manuel Neuer has sustained another injury and we’re incredibly sorry for him. The operation went perfectly, which is the most important thing for now. We and our captain are now looking to the future. Manuel will be back to his previous best and available to us again in January (2018).”

Manuel Neuer had picked the original injury against Real Madrid in the first leg of their 2016/17 UEFA Champions League encounter and then aggregated the injury in the return-leg match in Madrid and was out from April to August and only returned on Bundesliga Match Day 2.

Now Manuel Neuer will miss the rest of 2017 with club and country both hoping he will be fine in the new year with FC Bayern to challenge for domestic and international trophies, while Germany with Neuer as captain aims to retain the FIFA World Cup in Russia.
