Goa First Division: Salgaocar Jr, Goa Police, Dempo Jr all win!

Salgaocar FC (Jrs) beat Curtorim Gymkhana 4-2 in the ‘Geno’ Goa First Division League in association with Jhoncy Restaurant Benaulim organized by Goa Football Association (GFA) played at Artificial Turf in Fatorda on Saturday.

The game got off to a bright start and it was the Curtorim side who had the first smiles. Roque Borges was on the scoresheet for the Curtorim side in the 20th minute with a neat finish.
But the green brigade came out stronger and netted the equalizer in the first half additional time through their star player Ronaldo Oliveira.

In the second half, Salgaocar were quick to take the lead as Rollwin Almeida made it 2-1 in the 48th minute. Chaitan Komaprant made it 3-1 in the 70th minute as the Salgaocar side dominated the game then on.

The Curtorim side had a chance of reducing the margin in the 84th minute as they earned a penalty after the ball was handled in the Salgaocar FC box but the keeper came up with a brilliant save off the spot to deny Curtorim’s Roque Borges’ shot.

But they didn’t fail to score four minutes later as the Curtorim side earned another penalty after the Salgaocar keeper got into trouble with Roque as he tried to head the ball away but resulted in committing a foul which was noticed by the referee who quickly pointed to the spot. This time Liston Fernamdes stepped up and converted from the spot, 3-2.

In the final stages of the game, Salgaocar FC earned a penalty after Romaldo Oliveira was brought down inside the box. Jovan Dias took the shot but the Curtorim keeper came out with a brilliant save to prevent further damage. But little could he do in the additional time as Ronaldo Oliveira placed his strike into the nylons as the Salgaocar side won 4-2.

At Ambelim ground, Goa Police came from behind to beat Youth Club Manora by a similar margin, 4-2.

The Manora side opened the scoring and added two quick goals. Velito Miranda first scored in the 13th minute while later Minguel Barretto made it 2-0 in the 21st minute. But the Police team came stronger after these two goals as Miling Shinde reduced the margin in the 42nd minute.

Punanji Kalanguthkar made it all square just before half time through a fine goal while Shivanand Naik added another just before half time as they lead 3-2 at the break.

In the second half , Milind Shinde added a late goal as they won 4-2.

At Ella ground, Dempo SC (Jrs) beat Holy Cross SC Arambol 2-0. Nikhil Gurung (39′) and Sachin Gawas (81′) scored the goals for the Golden Eagles.

At a game held at Sirsaim ground, A.A de Moira and St Savio SC played a 0-0 draw. Neither of the sides managed to break the deadlock in the game.
