Goa Football Development Council celebrated its fourth anniversary!

4th Anniversary GFDCAn exhibition football match was played between the GFDC staff and FC Goa staff to mark the fourth anniversary celebrations of the Goa Football Development Council on Friday, July 29 at the Duler Stadium in Mapusa. The GFDC staff defeated FC GOA staff 6-1.

Sandesh Sawant opened the scoring for GFDC early in the game and Derryl D’Souza finished of a cross from Brian Diniz, to make it 2-0 before in the 25th minute FC Goa scored an own goal from a defensive lapse.

In the second half FC Goa pulled one goal back with Alfex D’Souza finding the back of the net. But Shashank Ashvek made it 4-1 in favour of GFDC and a few minutes later Kenneth Fernandes sent home a beautiful goal to make it 5-1. Hardly had FC Goa recovered by the goal against the run of play, GFDC pumped in another beautiful goal in the 70th minute with Franklyn Roncon getting the better of the FC Goa goalkeeper.

In the evening GFDC held a function to celebrate the fourth anniversary of its existence. Kenbert Rodrigues, Asst. Executive Secretary welcomed the gathering. In his address GFDC Member Secretary Aleixo Da Costa outlined the achievements of GFDC and requested various stakeholders to support GFDC.

GFDC Chairman Dr Rufino Monteiro in his speech addressed the problems faced by Goan football and urged with a passionate plea for everyone in football to come together and support measures for the betterment of the game. GFDC felicitated four former Goan international players – Brahmanand Shankwalkar, Late Prakash Naik, Francis De Souza and Ritina Fernandes for their outstanding contribution to Football in Goa and India, which was done by the chief guest Siddharth Kuncolienkar (MLA Panjim constituency) and the guest of honor Dr. Mathew Samuels (former Sports Secretary Government of Goa).

Dr. Samuels speaking on the occasion said he was delighted that GFDC, formed by the Govt. of Goa to develop football in the state, was on the right track. Siddharth Kuncolienkar addressing the gathering expressed his great satisfaction at the way GFDC has progressed from an infant in 2012 to a toddler today and was confident that Goan football will get great results from these grassroot initiatives.

The function was attended by the Football fraternity of Goa. A video clipping of the achievements of GFDC in the past year was also shown. Derryl D’souza, the GFDC Technical-Incharge, proposed the vote of thanks.
