Goan giants Dempo Sports Club will bring curtains on their Golden Jubilee celebrations with the felicitation of the club’s best 50 players of all time and release of a commemorative book that documents the club’s rich history.
Goa Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar and All India Football Federation (AIFF) president Praful Patel will release the book at the Taleigao Community Centre on Tuesday, May 23, at 6.30pm.
Dempo’s best 50 players of all time, many of them legends of the game in Goa, will each be felicitated for their exceptional contribution. The players were selected by a panel of experts which included the club’s former players and coaches.
Since inception in 1967, Dempo Sports Club have won a plethora of honours which includes a record haul of five National Football League and I-League titles. Dempo SC were also the first Indian club to qualify for the semifinals of the AFC Cup and take part in the AFC Champions League playoffs.
“For us at the Dempo group, football is everything and it is this all-consuming love of the beautiful game that has propelled us to keep the club going for the past 50 years,” said group chairman and club president Shrinivas Dempo.
