Goa Pro League: FC Goa cruise to 3-0 win over Vasco SC!

FC Goa Developmental Side continued their unbeaten run in the Goa Pro League with a convincing 3-0 win over Vasco SC at the Duler Stadium in Mapusa. Goals from Liston Colaco, Imran Khan and Lalawmpuia Ralte helped the Gaurs to their eighth win in 10 games.

The Gaurs started the game on the front foot and were in the ascendancy for much of the first forty-five. The first half, in fact, saw the Gaurs’ keeper Shubham Dhas not having to make a single save. The story for Vasco SC’s Sanju Thapa, their custodian, was much different.

The Gaurs peppered the Vasco SC goal with shots from all angles. The young keeper, on his part, was equal to the task each time to keep the score respectable. His save from Lalawmpuia’s low shot in the 22nd minute was particularly praise-worthy as the youngster dove low to his right to keep the ball out.

He, however, couldn’t have done anything if Liston had found the target late on in the half. Colaco broke free on the left twice in as many minutes at the fag-end of the first half, but failed to apply the finishing touch each time as the teams went into halftime goalless.

The story for the second half would read much different.

Liston finally got his reward for his endeavours with a goal in the 62nd minute. The youngster timed his run at the back post to perfection before heading home Jonathan Cardozo’s ball from the right.

It could have been 2-0 six minutes later as the ever-fervent Kingslee Fernandes got to the end of a through ball from Imran. But Thapa in the Vasco goal read the situation well and came out just in time to close down the angle and keep out the toe-poke towards goal.

He, however, couldn’t do anything a few minutes later as Imran doubled the lead for the Gaurs. The Manipuri lad found space in the near the edge of the box to turn and then unleash a thumper that gave the Vasco keeper no chance.

For the hard-working Lalawmpuia, his time under the sun would finally arrive in the 82nd minute. The man from Mizoram played the ball to Imran in the middle before setting off for a run to pierce the heart of the Vasco backline. Imran played in any equally delightful chip that Ralte was able to take in his stride before unleashing a low shot at an angle to leave the Sanju Thapa in the Vasco goal rooted to his spot.

The Gaurs could have further compounded Vasco’s misery in the dying minutes of the game. Two surging runs from the left by Kingslee were, however, not met with conviction by Aaren D’Silva in the middle. Whilst he skied the first in the 91st minute, his effort a minute later.

The win takes FC Goa’s point tally to 26 points from 10 games courtesy of eight wins and two draws. The Gaurs will look to maintain their unbeaten streak when they next take on Panjim Footballers on December 21.
