The Chennaiyin FC Under-13 team notched a hattrick of wins in the 2018-19 Hero Sub-Junior League Chennai Zone with a resounding 7-0 win over Raman Vijayan Soccer School (RVSS) U-13s at the SSN College Ground today. Pondicherry-born forward K. Karmugilan starred with a hattrick for Chennaiyin FC with second-half substitute Karan Chakravarthy scoring a brace. G. Arulesh had opened the scoring for Chennaiyin as S. Varun Kumar also added one from the spot.

The Chennaiyin FC U-13s maintained their 100% record in the Chennai Zone, having scored 22 goals so far without reply. Karmugilan now has five goals to his name, Chennaiyin FC’s top-scorer so far this campaign. Chennaiyin FC face FC Madras in their next encounter in an away game on Thursday, April 4 at the FC Madras Arena.

For the third consecutive game, the Chennaiyin FC U-13s’ starting eleven was unchanged. And they were quick off the blocks, opening the scoring as early as the seventh minute. Arulesh rose the highest from an M. Ajay Kumar corner to make it 1-0 to Chennaiyin FC.

Goalscorer Arulesh turned provider a few minutes later, when he set up K. Karmugilan inside the box for Chennaiyin FC’s second goal of the afternoon.

Chennaiyin created a flurry of chances thereafter and continued their domination of RVSS. The third goal eventually came in the 27th minute, when Mohammed Irfan was fouled in the box by an RVSS defender. Varun stepped up and scored his second penalty in as many matches; his third goal of the campaign so far.

Before the half-time break, Chennaiyin FC were 4-0 up, thanks to Karmugilan’s second of the afternoon, following a pass from skipper Akash M. from the left.

It was more of the same after the break, as all the action was being played in the RVSS half. Substitute E. Kannan had an instant impact, assisting Karmugilan’s hat-trick goal from the right flank on 50 minutes.

Another substitute Karan Chakravarthy, who hails from Coimbatore, joined the scoring party soon after. His first was from the rebound following an attempt by Vijay. His second and Chennaiyin FC’s seventh was a brilliant solo effort, after beating three defenders and scoring from inside the box in stoppage time.
