Techtro Swades United opened their Himachal Football League campaign with a match against Shiva FC on a cold afternoon in Una.
It promised to be an exciting spectacle between Red (TSUFC) and Yellow (Shiva FC), and it didn’t disappoint as the crowd witnessed a free-flowing game in the first half with very few stoppages. It was Techtro, however, who dominated the ball for the most part, so much so that Shiva FC were finding it difficult to get the ball out of their own half.
Techtro Swades United’s prowess and physicality were too much for Shiva, as the latter’s resistance was broken via a corner – Jayananda Singh rose above the rest to score the opener and Techtro’s first-ever goal.
Shiva FC were then given a shimmer of hope to get something out of the game, as former India junior international Anwar Ali went into a challenge and mistimed it, earning him a second yellow card, and Techtro were down to 10-men. Shiva FC looked to take advantage of their extra man by getting the ball into the box as much as possible but to futile effect.
The second half started out much like the first, with Techtro Swades United dominating possession and controlling proceedings.
It looked like Techtro Swades United would get the job done with a routine win, but the drama is never far away from football. Shiva were enjoying a good spell of possession and was looking to thread through balls to penetrate the Techtro Swades United’s defence, and just when they thought they were successful in doing so, Jayananda committed a professional foul by pulling one of the Shiva players back on the edge of the 18-yard box. The referee pulled out another red card, and Techtro were down to nine-men.
Shiva sensed blood now and kept knocking on the door before they were finally rewarded with an equalizer. A neat through ball, perfect first touch, and a clinical finish on the far post – and Shiva were back into the game. But just when it seemed to like Shiva had all the momentum and belief to win this, they fell apart again. Victor Ekongbong got past his fullback and ran to the right touchline, before releasing a cross which seemed comfortable enough for the goalkeeper. But he somehow managed to mishandle it, and it fell kindly for Himanshu Jangra, who was waiting to open his account in the state league.
Techtro Swades United clinched the win and grabbed the three points from their opening game with a 2-1 win against Shiva FC.
Techtro Swades United FC now will take on Shahpur FC on November 28.
