Hong Kong Summer Scheme develops next generation!

11,000 children stand to benefit from the Hong Kong Football Association (HKFA) Summer Scheme Programme, as it celebrates its 20th year.

The Summer Scheme is organised by the HKFA and is funded by the Hong Kong Jockey Club (HKJC) Charities Trust with additional subvention given from LCSD for all pitch bookings. The programme provides football opportunities for children from the ages of four to 17 through a series of training sessions and friendly match-play.

Each player can enjoy 10 sessions over a five-week period with classes being held across the whole of Hong Kong. After the conclusion of the training period, youngsters have the chance to play small-sided matches against their peers in ‘Games Days’.

These Games Days are organised with a variety of formats including 3v3 for the youngest players, 5v5 and 7v7.

The course aims to enhance the interest of playing football and cultivating sportsmanship among the youth in Hong Kong and is open for all youngsters to join.

In an effort to provide the best football experience, the programme employs over 200 coaches, who are required to attend theoretical and practical seminars to enhance their knowledge before the programme.

Prior to the commencement of the programme, the HKFA held four school visits with Grassroots Manager Chris Yiu, who was accompanied by the Hong Kong men and women’s national team, along with Hong Kong Premier League players to act as ambassadors of the game and to inspire the next generation of players.

“Our Summer Scheme Programme is very important in developing the next generation,” said Yiu. “Our grassroots coaches involved with the programme are very committed to teach the next generation of Hong Kong players.”

“We hope that the children will take this opportunity to unite, respect and help each other, while enjoying a shared experience of fun football activities.”
