Hosts Atletico Paranaense defeat India U-16 4-0 to reach Invitational Tournament final!

The Indian U-17 World Cup Team once more went down 0-4 to Atletico Paranaense Under-17s in the first semifinal of the U-17 International Tournament yesterday, December 16.

Atletico Paranaense almost found the back of the net in the 15th minute but Mohammed Nawaz’s acrobatic save thwarted their effort to keep the scoreline goalless.

Only four minutes later, India earned a free kick at the top of the opponent box but Amarjit’s shot was cleared by the opposition defence without much fuss which resulted in a corner. But the resultant corner was collected by the rival goalkeeper.

The home team drew first blood from an own corner towards the end of the first half.

After the changeover, the home team was awarded a penalty kick which was converted to double their lead.

Nicolai tried to instil more speed and purpose in the midfield by introducing the fresher pair of legs of Saurabh and Abhijit withdrawing Lalengmawia and Aniket respectively.

In last 10 minutes, the Brazilian boys suddenly changed the gear and took the match by the scruff of the neck. They netted two successive goals to overwhelm their Indian counterparts by an unassailable 4-0 margin.

Indian boys are now slated to compete against Orlando City SC in the third place decider at 17.00h IST on Sunday, December 18.
