I have mixed feelings with Germany’s Bundesliga set to restart today, May 16 with the Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic still in full flow.
Here in Germany we have been doing a lot right during the pandemic and over the last three weeks a lot of measures have been cut back amongst them along the top two professional leagues to restart
The DFL (Deutsche Fußball Liga) has worked with medical experts to develop an extensive hygiene plan to allow the Bundesliga and Bundesliga 2 to restart over this weekend.
But surprisingly in a football crazy country like Germany, the general mood is against the restart of football while around the world loads of football fans are looking forward to this day.
But how do I feel on the restart of the Bundesliga?
As someone working in professional football, I am happy to see the Bundesliga restart. There are a lot of friends and colleagues who work in German football with the official figure standing at 56,000.
Football without fans isn’t the same and again if I think pragamtically then it is without any other options in the current situation. But my heart bleeds then football needs fans, then football despite being big business these days, is for the fans!
But as a human being seeing the effects of the Corona pandemic around the world I am sceptical if it is the right time for the restart.
The reactions of fans in Germany show that currently we as mankind have bigger issues than football and professioanl sports.
I am honestly undecided on how to feel on a day like this…
