How Football Fans Coped with the Coronavirus Haitus!

For football fans, the sport has been a constant throughout their entire lives. We’re used to seeing our team fight it out every weekend, watching our favorite players giving their best, and sharing the joys and frustrations that come with being absolutely in love with the beautiful game.

However, in March 2020, most professional sports had to be suspended due to the coronavirus pandemic and football wasn’t spared either.

Even though football did make a comeback with the Bundesliga being the first league to restart, here are some ways football fans coped with the hiatus while still staying in touch with football.

Watching classic old matches

The first football match to be broadcasted was played between Arsenal and Arsenal Reserves way back in 1937! Ever since then, football was brought to countless homes and bars around the world through the power of television.

Fortunately, we live in a time where watching football is easier than ever with the internet. Other than being able to watch live matches over the internet, a huge number of classics are also available for us to enjoy on-demand.

Whether it be an international classic matches like the 1970 World Cup Final between Brazil and Italy or club matches like the 1999 Champions League Final between Manchester United and Bayern Munich, it’s always great to live through those moments of the finest football the world has ever seen.

Reading up about the game

There are a number of amazing books on the subject of football ranging from autobiographies written by the likes of Alex Ferguson and Zlatan Ibrahimovic to books about in-depth strategic analysis like Inverting the Pyramid by Jonathan Wilson.

Even though it can be a bit hard to imagine reading as being a substitute for watching football, it can definitely be an exciting experience, as there are tons of masterful journalists and storytellers when it comes to the world of football.

Betting on online casinos

It is not really surprising that the sports betting market is worth more than a hundred billion dollars as a lot of fans like to put their money where their mouth is. The coronavirus pandemic was a severe blow to online sportsbooks around the world as there were no matches to bet on anymore.

However, a lot of online sportsbooks also feature online casinos where players can enjoy a wide range of transparent and fair games such as Blackjack, Roulette, and Baccarat. Instead of betting on electronic matches, a lot of punters decided to get their share of the thrill from online casino games over the break instead.

Playing video games

Lastly, tons of fans turned to their trusted consoles and PCs to enjoy the virtual side of football with games like FIFA 2020. While FIFA has always been a favorite among football fans, the games proved both to be a distraction from the ongoing pandemic and an opportunity to watch their teams reach the highest of highs in the football world, albeit a virtual one.
