Hungary coach Bernd Storck nominated for the ‘German Football Ambassador 2017’ award!

Serbia, Kazakhstan, Greece and currently Hungary. Bernd Storck has experienced a lot through football and has contributed to the success in several countries. The former Bundesliga professional has now been nominated for the ‘German Football Ambassador 2017’ awards for this commitment. The nomination certificate was handed over at the training center of the Hungarian Football Association.

Since the 2016 European Championship, Hungary has once again is part of the European football stage. After the first place in the preliminary round the team around Bernd Storck reached the Round of 16 and was praised around the world for their refreshing football – one of the greatest successes since the fourth place at Euro 1972. Storck took over the position of Sports Director in March 2015 and became shortly thereafter also the head coach of the Hungarian national team. He started his international career as a coach at Partizan Belgrade, before he trained the Kazakh national team and then switched to Olympiakos Piräus as coach and junior co-ordinator.

Storck was pleased with the nomination and said, “The nomination is both an honor and an obligation for me because I am aware of the responsibility of my work abroad, so I am particularly pleased with the appreciation.”

The nomination stands for the work of Bernd Storck in international football, the creation of sustainable structures, especially in the up-and-coming generation, as well as the positive image he conveys from Germany to the world. With his prize money Bernd Storck supports the Csányi Alapítvány initiative in Hungary; Here, too, the focus is on supporting disadvantaged children and young people. The goal is to create a perspective on football and promote school education.

In the category ‘coaches’, three German coaching personalities have been nominated, who contributed to an extraordinary extent to the intercultural exchange and the international reputation of Germany. In addition to Bernd Storck they are Horst Kriete and Michael Krüger. Kriete was active for over 30 years on behalf of the DFB, DOSB and the German Foreign Office as an instructor and development assistant. Michael Krüger has shown great commitment in Africa with success in Sudan and Egypt. The winner in the category ‘Coach’ will be announced on May 16, 2017 at the Federal Foreign Office in the German capital Berlin.
