Bengaluru FC play their second away clash in six days as they travel to the Tilak Maidan in Goa on Friday to face Churchill Brothers in a game Albert Roca said would be a tougher test than East Bengal. “We’re coming into this game on the back of a defeat and Churchill are hungry for their first win which makes the game a very tough proposition, even more difficult a test than our last game in my opinion,” said the Blues’ coach on the eve of the game.
The Goan club, who returned to the League after a two year hiatus, are yet to record a win against the Blues, having lost on both occasions in Bengaluru FC’s debut season. But Roca said his boys know better than to take even a minute on the pitch tomorrow for granted. “I said after the last game that I was proud of the kind of attitude the boys showed in Kolkata. If we don’t let that drop, the results will work for us.”
The Blues went down for the first time this season as East Bengal recorded a 2-1 win over the defending champions in Kolkata, on Sunday. Meanwhile, Churchill Brothers’ solitary point in the League so far, came from a 1-1 draw against DSK Shivajians in Pune last week. The Alfred Fernandes–coached side will rely on the experience of Clifford Miranda and Adil Khan in their bid to claim a first win since their return to the top tier of Indian Football.
With the AFC Champions League qualifier against Al-Wehdat in Jordan in four days from now, it will be interesting to see if Roca decides to rotate the squad for the game against the Goa club.
Bengaluru FC, who put in a session at the match venue on Thursday, will be without defender Sandesh Jhingan who continues to recover from a minor injury.
